Our Story

Situated in Bramblestown near Gowran Co. Kilkenny. One old farmhouse, one job, one aspiring business, four children, two dogs, too many cats, ever increasing numbers of fowl and great plans for a garden.

Speltbakers is a family run micro-business, started in 2010. As many others, a shortage of family funds led us to baking, a bake house and a budding business.

We started baking in the family kitchen, then, in 2013 with following grant aid from Kilkenny Leader Partnership we turned an old unused shed into a bakehouse. From selling a couple of loaves in Glasrai and Goodies in Gowran in 2010.

Today, we work through an average of over 500kg of spelt flour week-on-week. Not quite at the level of a mainstream commercial bakery but pretty big for us.

 

Spelt Baking Courses.

Any weekend, join our master bakers and learn to bake your own bread, scones, tarts, pizza and a particular favourite sourdough.

Our bake house is petite limiting spaces to 5 baking enthusiasts at a time. However, we can cater for larger groups on a rotational basis (eat the bread while the others bake.)

Intimate numbers allow us to be flexible and we can basically make whatever it is you want to learn and/or to experiment with. Courses are suitable for all ages. Our master bakers will provide expert advice and answer all your baking questions
